Escolinha de Rugby da Trofa aims at promoting school success and reducing the number of grade repetitions, thereby preventing early school leaving. This pre-emptive intervention with children and adolescents at risk of exclusion uses Rugby and its principles of play as a tool to consolidate behavioural and attitude change processes. The project promotes equal opportunities and gender equality in an intervention focused on prevention for all, regardless of race, ethnicity or social class.
The lack of positive role models for these children and adolescents between the ages of 4 and 17, the lack of equal access to Education, Healthcare and Sports, and low personal and social skills all contribute to the development of the low self-esteem of children and adolescents and to grade repetition, deviant behaviour and them not having a purpose in life. The values and principles shared in this project are learned not only be these children and adolescents, but by their families as well. The intervention takes place six days a week, with an educational philosophy based on repetitive behaviour processes, standards and rules.
